crickets and the dull hum in the kitchen

I am finding that my two favorite times of day are the silent moments early in the morning, and the late late night. Once the husband falls asleep on the couch and his movie is over (tonight it was the Invasion of The Body Snatchers) there is this amazing peace. All the cars have reached their destinations except a few wanderers, the neighbors have left their rolling chairs and video games, and the cat has given up on his milk rings. The only sounds that remain are the late night crickets, and the dull hum of the refrigerator. I think the refrigerator is trying to tell me to remove the near rotten fruit from it's belly, as soon as the guilt of wasting lifts I will do so.

I have a new batch of polymer clay flowers, and jewelry on its way. I have taken quite a bit of time lately working out the clay kinks and discovering the possibilities. I hope to create some unique pieces with this new found art, it is my instant gratification fix some days.

a new love

Over the weekend I made the most lovely discovery...the world of polymer clay. at first my interest was out of necessity, and now it has become an addiction. We will be teaching a class on this crazy clay, so I was in charge of testing it out. At first I was reminded of Carol Duval, anyone without a 9-5 and a lot of free time on their crafty hands will know exactly who I am speaking of. Carol is the queen of sweet eyed little polymer clay creatures of all sorts, to the point of making me cringe. Don't get me wrong I was a devoted viewer while I maintained my evening restaurant job, but the clay people, cats, whatever just gave me cutesie rage! So to my delight I am learning the amazing world of polymer clay is more than these things. I have posted a few images of my dabbling.

I hope to create some more flawless flowers
for etsy (www.designbyjen.etsy.com) in the near future.

Buttons Buttons

The days right now feel as though they have been stolen. I love to sleep, but 1am comes so quickly in the evening, where do the nights go? In my fight against sleep I have put together a few necklaces. I am not sure though, if they will make it to etsy (designbyjen.etsy.com). I still have a few modifications to make, and i have to manage the strength to part with them. The colorful buttons give me this feeling of warmth, of being in awe of the tiny things in life that we have forgotten to admire and take in. Since you have read all my thoughts till now, take a minute to let me know if I should continue to tweak the buttons buttons project :)
